BIO

Pia Pilar Reynaldo, Asian American of Filipino and Chinese background, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Reynaldo is an abstract painter. Her abstract paintings are powerful, meditative, and emotional. They represent feelings of the present and of the past. Her distinctive style is representative in her strong brush strokes that project movement and raw passion.

Colors and shapes, are built through many layers of paint and the application of mark making, expressing visual determination and balance. “My paintings are very emotional, bringing moments in time and experience to the surface. I want people to have their own sensations when they look at my artwork.”

Reynaldo’s journey as an artist started later in her timeline. Having no formal training in painting, Reynaldo’s Bachelors of Arts Degree in Graphic Design gave her a strong foundation to understanding structure and forms, lines and shapes in her approach to creating her abstract paintings. Always painting, drawing, sketching, and collaging, while working full time, Reynaldo was unknowingly building her inventory. In 2017 Reynaldo took a leap of faith, quit her full-time job and started painting. Leaning only on herself to get her painting career moving forward, Reynaldo decided to apply to The Other Art Fair in Chicago in 2019. She was accepted into the art fair, and was appreciative and humbled to show among artists and learn from them who have spent most of their lives creating art. This inspiration fueled her passion to paint and follow the journey of being an artist.

Reynaldo was recognized and awarded the “Outstanding Emerging Artist” for her selected work, ‘Silencing Explodes’ for “HerStory” in 2020-2021, and her painting ‘etc etc’, in “HerStory” 2023, online exhibition of Art by Women, presented by the Manhattan Arts International.
